Rehearsal Blog Update 10/10/2014

Dear Ensemble and Vocalise Singers and Families,

Will Todd Residency Week has been exciting so far! Aria, Vocalise, and Ensemble have all had the opportunity to rehearse with Mr. Todd, and tonight we are looking forward to a wonderful masterclass. Parents of Vocalise and Ensemble singers are all invited to attend tonight’s session from 6:00-8:00pm at FCC, where Will Todd will share his stories of becoming a jazz musician and a composer of choral music, and talk about his compositional technique and style as well as the British music scene.

Will Todd Residency Schedule
Friday, October 10th at FCC: Aria from 5:00-6:00pm, Ensemble and Vocalise from 6:00-8:00pm
What to wear: Cantabile black t-shirt, nice blue jeans. NO shorts or flip flops (sandals are OK).
Please note: Drop off and pick up procedures are as usual.

What to Practice This Week
ENSEMBLE

Repertoire

Inflammatus et accentus. Read the translation of the text on the back of your scores, then click HERE to listen to the piece performed by two soloists.

Magic Prayer: Focus particularly on measures 75-end.

Cool Yule: Review page 6 and come up with some ideas for simple choreography – we will share these next week.

Vois Sur Ton Chemin: Begin memorizing – everything up to just before “Bonheurs enfantin”. A pronunciation review will be coming soon. Below is a translation of the full text. Read and consider it carefully – we will discuss it at the next rehearsal.

Look out on your path
Children who are lost and who have been forgotten
Lend them a hand
And lead them
Towards another future
Feel in the middle of the night
A surge of hope
The indefatigability of life
The Road to glory
Childish happiness
Erased and forgotten too fast
A golden light shines forever
And the end of the road

Musicianship

Pages 19-21 are due next week for all singers completing “A Young Singer’s Journey” Book III or IV. Please also view the marker’s comments at the front of the book and make sure that you have corrected any mistakes made in last week’s work.

Your secret word is “call”.

Star Spangled Banner: Memorized.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Memorized.
